Due to the geography of the area, there are a great amount of hills created through the slate and volcanic states of the rock; deposited both through shallow seas and a small amount of volcanic action millions of years ago. Due to these volcanic rocks and slow build up of rock deposits, hills and mountains have slowly developed and grown giving the area a great amount of contouring that gives it its natural shape.
Scafell Pike is one of the most notable mountains in the area. As the tallest mountain in England, the peak standing at 912m.
